Embark on an 7-days wildlife photography tour through the heart of North Sumatra renowned national parks and reserves. This adventure offers unparalleled opportunities to capture the iconic wildlife, including Orangutans, Rhino hornbill birds, King cobras, Asian Elephants and lots of species of monkeys. This tour is made on 5D/4N tour endurance inside the Sumatra rain forest, with a deep and strong connection with nature made for who want to take amazing pictures in a fragile and iconic ecosystem like sourthen rainforest.

Our experienced guides will lead you through early morning and late afternoon inside the jungle, ensuring you’re in the right place at the right time to capture the perfect shot. Bird enthusiasts will enjoy the chance to photograph a variety of species. As the sun sets, all animals wake up, listening the primitive sound of our planet before civilisation. The sound of the forest that takes life while we are resting.

Throughout the trekking, you’ll stay in basic accomodation made inside the forest. Our porter will ensure you rich meals full of fruits, rice, meat and vegetable. Also, the local guide will do the possible to spot as many animal as possible to ensure you best photographic opportunities.
But remember, we are in the wild. nothing is sure 100%.

With expert guidance, you’ll learn techniques to enhance your photography skills, making this trip not just a visual feast but also an enriching learning experience.

You will be accompanied by two expert nature guides who will provide insights into the wildlife you encounter, along with Alessandro, a wildlife photographer with over six years of experience. Alessandro will share techniques and tips to elevate your photography skills. Throughout the tour, you will be immersed in natural environments where animals roam freely, and it is crucial to respect both the wildlife and their habitat as we capture these moments with our cameras. At the end of each day, you will enjoy the sounds of the Sumatra rainforest, because it is in the that wildlife wakes up the most. Our accomodation have been choosen to provide best comfort and accessibility to the jungle. Our partner Orangutan bungalows is located just 5 minutes walking from the gate of the rainforest and where, sometimes, Orangutans push themselves to find fruits to eat.

Tour detail​

Arrive in Medan where our driver will wait for you for the drop on and Heading straight to Bukit Lawang and your accomodation. Porters will help you to bring your bags till the accomodation, close to te gate of the forest.

Breakfast and getting ready for the first day of trekking.
Porters will help you to bring your gear if needed and will carry food, water and camping gear all along the trekking.

After 5 amazing days in the jungle, it is coming to an end. 
The final day will be  your final chance to get some more picture and encounter before getting to the accomodation.

Rest and in the afternoon a masterclass.
Getting ready for dinner and the next day departure.

It’s time to say goodbye, for now. I hope in that day you fullfill yourself with experiences, beautiful encounters, lots of pictures to edit and new friends!

However, you can choose what feels most comfortable for you. Due the warm condition, ranspirant clothing is advices. The humidity can be persistant outside your accomodation, so it is advisable to have summer clothes and mosquito spray (a lot).

This tour is specifically designed for dedicated photographers. Due to the unpredictable weather conditions and the extended waiting periods required to capture the perfect shot, participants should be prepared for a challenging yet rewarding experience. Patience, adaptability, and a passion for photography are essential to make the most of this journey.

The tour includes 1x lesson where the photography tour leader will explain the basics of photography techniques. Afterward, we’ll head into the field to practice. At the end of the day, we’ll gather to review all the photos, discuss potential mistakes, suggest improvements, and finish with a final session focused on post-production.
In the evenings we can also have a chat telling the experience lived during the day.

Price change depending the number of members of the group, the more the group is big, the less will be the cost.

The price may change depending of the different currency and applicable fees. Alessandro Wildlife Photography and Escape to Sumatra are not responsible for that.

The accommodations have been carefully selected to provide essential services and absolute comfort after a busy day. Rooms will be shared and assigned based on gender.

Due to availability and period, ccomodation may change.

Bringing a zoom or superzoom lens is highly recommended, ideally something in the range of 100-400mm or 150-600mm. The photography tour leader will be happy to lend you a lens if needed and teach you the best practices for wildlife photography.
Your laptop is essential for our post production sessions after the day spent taking pictures. Two hard drivers are also highy recommended for storing you pictures and one for backup.
Drone is forbidden inside the rain forest.

We always advice insurances for every kind of travels or experiences, for personal reasons or personal items.

Sumatra Orangutan Jungle Photography Expedition
7 Days / 6 Nights – Including 5 Days / 4 Nights Jungle Trekking


1. NATURE OF THE EXPEDITION

This program is a 7 Days / 6 Nights wildlife photography expedition in Sumatra, Indonesia.

The itinerary includes a 5 Days / 4 Nights jungle trekking experience conducted in tropical rainforest conditions, combined with arrival logistics, transfers and operational support.

The jungle trekking portion involves steep and uneven terrain, high humidity and tropical climate, mud, river crossings, dense vegetation, extended daily walking hours and basic jungle accommodation conditions.

This expedition requires good physical condition, adaptability and resilience.

By confirming the booking, the participant declares to be physically and medically fit to undertake a multi-day jungle trek in tropical conditions. The Organizer reserves the right to refuse participation if a participant’s condition may compromise personal or group safety.


2. WILDLIFE DISCLAIMER – NO GUARANTEE OF SIGHTINGS

This expedition involves observation and photography of wildlife, including orangutans and other species living in natural and semi-wild habitats.

Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.

Animals live in an uncontrolled natural environment and their behavior and movements are unpredictable.

The Organizer shall not be held responsible for:

  • Failure to sight orangutans or other species

  • Limited or distant sightings

  • Brief encounters

  • Weather or environmental conditions affecting visibility

  • Conservation restrictions or park authority regulations

No refund, either full or partial, shall be granted due to lack of sightings.


3. PAYMENT TERMS

A deposit of 30% is required at the time of booking confirmation.

The final balance is due 45 days before the commencement of the tour program.

If the reservation is made within 45 days of departure, the full amount must be paid at the time of confirmation.

No booking is confirmed until deposit or full payment is received.

Rates and availability are subject to change until confirmation.


4. CANCELLATION POLICY

All cancellations must be received in writing.

There is no refund, either partial or full, for cancellations made within 45 days prior to departure, regardless of the reason.

Reservations that are canceled, reduced in length, or reduced in number of participants are subject to cancellation and no-show fees charged by local suppliers, which will be passed on to the Client.

Name changes are permitted up to 15 days before departure, subject to a €30 administrative fee. The substitute participant must accept these Terms & Conditions in full.


5. MINIMUM PARTICIPANTS

This expedition requires a minimum number of participants to operate.

If the minimum number is not reached within 30 days prior to departure, the Organizer reserves the right to:

  • Cancel the tour with full refund of payments received, or

  • Propose an alternative departure option subject to a revised quotation.

No additional compensation shall be due.


6. HEALTH, FITNESS & MEDICAL RESPONSIBILITY

Participants are solely responsible for verifying recommended vaccinations and health precautions for Indonesia, obtaining medical clearance if necessary, and carrying required personal medication.

Participants must inform the Organizer of any medical condition that may affect their ability to complete the expedition.

The Organizer shall not be responsible for illness, injury, allergic reactions, tropical infections, insect-related conditions or any health issue arising during the expedition.

All medical expenses, evacuation costs or emergency transport are entirely at the participant’s expense.

Comprehensive travel and medical insurance, including evacuation coverage, is strongly recommended.


7. BEHAVIOR & WILDLIFE CONDUCT

Participants must strictly follow all instructions provided by local guides and park authorities.

It is strictly prohibited to:

  • Approach wildlife beyond permitted distances

  • Touch, feed or interact with animals

  • Leave the group without authorization

  • Engage in behavior that may endanger wildlife or other participants

Failure to comply may result in immediate exclusion from the expedition without refund.


8. EQUIPMENT & PERSONAL BELONGINGS

Each participant is fully responsible for personal belongings and photographic equipment.

The Organizer shall not be liable for:

  • Loss

  • Theft

  • Damage

  • Humidity-related deterioration

  • Accidental breakage during trekking

Adequate insurance coverage for high-value equipment is strongly advised.


9. EARLY TERMINATION & EVACUATION

If a participant decides to interrupt or abandon the trekking portion of the expedition for personal, physical or medical reasons:

  • No refund shall be granted.

  • Any additional costs arising from early return, evacuation, porter assistance, transport modification or accommodation changes shall be borne entirely by the participant.

In case of medical evacuation, all related expenses remain the sole responsibility of the participant.


10. LUGGAGE POLICY

Due to jungle logistics, only soft-sided luggage or duffel bags are permitted.

Hard suitcases are strongly discouraged and may not be transportable during internal transfers.

Baggage and personal effects remain at the owner’s risk throughout the expedition.


11. ITINERARY MODIFICATIONS

The Organizer reserves the right to modify, re-route or adjust the itinerary due to:

  • Weather conditions

  • Safety concerns

  • Jungle conditions

  • Park authority regulations

  • Operational requirements

Such modifications do not constitute grounds for refund.


12. GOVERNMENT TAXES & PARK FEES

Rates include current taxes and park fees at the time of quotation.

Should government authorities or park management increase taxes, conservation fees or entry permits, such increases will be passed on to the participant.


13. FORCE MAJEURE

The Organizer shall not be liable for cancellation, delay or modification of the expedition due to circumstances beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to:

  • Natural disasters (floods, landslides, earthquakes, volcanic activity)

  • Severe weather conditions

  • Government restrictions or park closures

  • Political instability

  • Public health emergencies

Refunds, if any, shall be limited to recoverable amounts from suppliers.


14. FLIGHT & TRAVEL DISRUPTION DISCLAIMER

The Organizer is not responsible for:

  • Flight delays or cancellations

  • Missed connections

  • Airline schedule changes

Any additional costs resulting from travel disruptions are the responsibility of the participant.


15. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Organizer’s total liability arising out of or in connection with the expedition, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, shall not exceed the total amount paid by the participant for the tour.

The Organizer shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of opportunity or emotional distress.


16. GOVERNING LAW & JURISDICTION

These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Italy.

Any dispute arising out of or in connection with this agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent court in Italy.


17. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS

By confirming the booking and/or paying the deposit, the participant acknowledges having read, understood and fully accepted these Terms & Conditions

Tour leader - wildlife photographer

Born in Catania, Sicily, Alessandro developed a deep connection with animals from a young age, growing up in a home filled with dogs, cats, squirrels, and other creatures. His passion for photography emerged in his early twenties when he began capturing images of pets and aquarium fish.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Natural and Environmental Science and a Master’s in Environmental Biology, Alessandro decided to combine his two greatest loves—nature and photography. After years of honing his skills through self-development and hands-on experience, he is now building a community of photographers and nature enthusiasts.

As a tour leader, Alessandro will share his extensive knowledge of photography and the natural world, guiding you on an unforgettable journey to capture the beauty of wildlife through your lens.
